SUPERHERO TRAINING. We had the safest building in the land.

Two weeks ago the library played host to a bevy of young superheroes-in-training, as they navigated a balloon mine field, a laser maze, and rescued our dinosaur citizens using only their super senses and the directions of their compatriots. They made ID cards and had a…dare I say it…super time.

    A balloon mine field!

  3. Sometimes after our concerts I ask the band if I can pose with them and pretend I’m a musician. And by “sometimes” I of course mean “this was the first time” and also listen to their music. They are great. Tumbling Bones! Their name comes from old timey slang for a pair of dice.

  4. One of my favorite things about my job is when I’m sitting at my desk and suddenly hear this crazy music coming from below me. Then I remember the Connecticut Ballet is visiting us! And there is crazy dancing and kids just going absolutely ballistic dancing because no one has taught them to be self-conscious of their moves yet. It is the best.

  5. This harmonica player just sent me a program proposal.

I can’t make any promises, but I am at the very least going to inquire.

Meditation Monday: Bring a little quiet, meditative space into your daily life.

Predicting the Weather: Find out how local 17-year-old weather savante predicts the weather.

Homegrown String Band: An evening of American roots music.

Cake Baking Competition: Local food bloggers will judge cakes based on taste, appearance, texture, and creativity.

Our Builders Brigade is rolling ahead full steam! This week, our 55 participants quickly jumped on board with our theme for the month:  TRANSPORTATION.  Trucks, cars, boats, planes…anything that transports something else fit the bill!  And don’t forget to check out the projects in-person while they’re on display at Cheshire Public Library (on display through March 16th).

My favorite is the lady on the bottom right: not only is she engineering but she’s doing it in velvet.

  8. The pole fitness session is a fun and interesting way of encouraging more people into our libraries, trying out all the services on offer and ultimately borrowing more books.

I think a pole would fit perfectly right next to our Bloomberg Terminal.

  9. The Danger of Author Signings

    intrepidheroine:

That moment when, waiting in line and clutching your precious novel, you go over all of the things you want to tell the author at the table. How her work completely and utterly captured your experience, that the book got you through a very rough patch, that you laughed and laughed and couldn’t stop. How, not to be melodramatic, but her work may have changed your life in very small but significant ways, and how you now recommend this book constantly because it is so wonderful that you just want to give it hugs.

And instead of saying any of these things, you freeze, smile, say something totally awkward, then run the other direction.

Then you get to the parking lot and go:

In other news, I may have been to a book signing this week.

As the person who arranges author signings, I must say that I LOVE seeing people get starstruck because I have been that person so, so many times.

Come join us in the Teen Lounge today at 3:30 p.m. We will be breaking open geodes to reveal their crystals!

Our teen librarian does awesome programs but I would like to know when the 3D Laser Crystal program is scheduled:
